David Rye

David undertook psychiatric nursing training and post-registration general training, qualifying in 1962. He qualified as a Nurse Tutor in 1967. In 1977 David joined the RCN as the Director of Professional Activities. Through his leadership in this role the RCN established a number of initiatives, notably standards on nursing care. By 1985 David was Secretary to the RCN Commission and broke the ground for nursing education to be established within higher education. From this David became a Fellow in Nursing Management at the Kings Fund College. Since 1987 David has built a career in independent consultancy. This has included lecturing for the University of London and from 1994 to 1996 was a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Nursing, Leeds University. David is currently Visiting Professor to the Faculties of Health at South Bank University and Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. A lifelong interest in mental health services has led David to become the President of Woking Mind.
