Discussion and Creative Writing Group

Discussion and Creative Writing is an informal group, where members who are interested in poetry, literature, art, painting and historic events are encouraged to participate within an environment that puts them at their ease, yet encourages analytical thought. Sharing the same interests and interacting with each other through ideas and suggestions helps promote a sense of self-worth, which could lead towards better mental well-being.

Some of the topics covered this year include the paintings of Picasso, Van Gogh, Hopper, Watts, Michelangelo, Da Vinci and Botticelli. We also considered the poetry of Clare, Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Tennyson – as well as the Frist World War poets, Owen, Brooke and Sassoon. The group has also discussed writers such as Wells and Shakespeare in addition to historical events such as Magna Carta, Agincourt, The Charge of the Light Brigade and the First World War

This is what a member has said about this group.

“The words that come to mind are – interesting, exciting, stimulating, sociable and challenging. We discuss and later write about a wide range of subjects. The atmosphere is one of camaraderie and fellowship. It has something new every week and is never boring”
